WPL 2025: Kohli Sends Best Wishes to RCB Women's Team
India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) veteran Virat Kohli wished the franchise women's team the best ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 season. Captained by Smriti Mandhana, the defending champions open their campaign against Gujarat Giants in the season-opener in Vadodara.
In a video posted by RCB on social media, Kohli appreciated the performance of the team last season and urged them to continue their momentum in the current season.
"I would want to wish all the very best to the women's team for the new season of WPL. What you did last season is incredible, and I would hope that you carry that wave and that kind of confidence and take it forward to this tournament as well. There is never a lack of talent, like we witnessed last season. You already have the title in hand, so you can now play freely and relish the affection of fans right throughout India. All the very best to you", Kohli stated.
Before their first match, RCB signed a crucial addition to their team in the form of wicketkeeper-batter Nuzhat Parween as a cover for injured Asha Sobhana. Parween, who has played five T20Is for India, is coming from Railways for her base price of Rs 30 lakh.
In the meanwhile, RCB's men's side also made news with captain Rajat Patidar appointed for IPL 2025. Kohli, a former RCB captain, came out in support of Patidar, pointing out his development within the franchise.
"What manner in which you have developed within the franchise and played, you have genuinely won over the hearts of fans all over India. They are waiting eagerly to see you play, and this captaincy is well-deserved. Myself and the whole team will stand with you, supporting you every step of the way", Kohli said in a second video posted by RCB.
Acknowledging the responsibility that comes with the role, Kohli assured Patidar that he has the potential to lead the franchise successfully.
"Taking up this job is a huge responsibility. I have done it for many years, and Faf [du Plessis] has captained the team in recent seasons. Being regarded as the person who is going to lead this franchise to the future is a huge compliment, and you've worked hard to be where you are today. I have no doubt you will go from strength to strength", he continued.
As both RCB sides gear up for their respective seasons, the franchise will seek to capitalize on previous successes and make a significant impression in both the WPL and IPL 2025 seasons.
